Back in 2012, cat poop coffee (or kopi luwak) was a big deal. Basically, people gathered coffee beans from an Asian palm civet’s feces and sold it. The civet isn’t even a cat–it is from the Viverridae family, not Felidae, which is what cats belong to. NPR said that 4oz of beans cost nearly $60!
Left-Pawed, Right-Pawed
Cats display ambidexterity doing all kinds of things–grooming, crouching into small places, or even playing in the kitty litter–but they actually can have a left or right dominance. However, it is unknown if the left-paw cats are the weird ones… (like left-handed humans)
Cats spend 30% of their life grooming
That’s, like, a lot of licking.
The Asian
There is a cat breed called Asian. It’s also commonly known as Malayan. However, this breed originates from Britain. I have no comment.
Walk Like a Lady
All cats walk on their toes. Must be something with that thing called evolution (or Jesus if you don’t believe in it).
Animal Assisted Therapy
Petting a cat can lower your blood pressure. Don’t believe me? Google it. Or check it out here. This is probably why cats have been used in Animal Assisted Therapy since it became a type of therapy in the 1990’s. Pretty neat if you ask me.
The Cat’s Purr
Vets say that cats purr by vibrating their vocal cords and a muscle in their larynx has to open and close over the air passage about 25 times per second to create the sound.
Millions of Cats
A popular picture book of the early 20th Century titled Millions of Cats by American author Wanda Gág featured hand-illustrated pictures and text. It’s basically about how evil cats are and feels extremely Dr. Seuss-esque.
Cat Meat
Nearly 10 years ago there was a poll that estimated that around four million cats (that’s six zeroes behind a 4) are eaten annually in Asian countries. Animal activists are working to get legislation passed to stop the consumption of felines but there has been little progress since it’s not considered taboo.
